The Australian Government announced new community sport guidelines to combat the spread of Coronavirus (COVID-19). Document is attached for your information to be shared with your executive, clubs and members.
The community sport guidelines were released to Sport Australia on Wednesday afternoon (18/03/2020) by the Minister for Sport, Senator the Hon Robert Colbeck and forwarded to all NSO's (National Sporting Organisations) today 19/0/2020.
If your state and/or clubs are continuing with limited activity please be midful of those who may choose not to participate, particularly those who have pre-existing medical conditions and those older members who may not want to put themselves at risk. Finding ways to keep your members engaged during this period may require some out of the box thinking though I would encourage you all think about how that might be possible and share some ideas. Italy as you would know is in lockdown, over the past week many skaters and clubs have been posting quirky 'at home training tips and videos' to keep their members connected. The World Skate Artistic Chair has set up WhatsApp training groups for judges and technical specialists as a way to keep people across the world connected and learning. Just a couple of methods to keep the engagement going.
State Administrators:
I understand, based on the Australian Government's update of 18 March, a number of local government/council owned recreation centres around the country have cancelled existing bookings and will remain closed for an indefinite period of time. If a club or state committee has been impacted in this way with having to cancel local events, regular training sessions, I would be interested to know. Similarly if a state committee/club/league in your state has made a decision to supend their training/club activities/local competition for a period of time, please let me know. An email at the end of each week from each state admin/Victorian discipline chair with an update on what the situation is in your area would be appreciated.
Reminder:
Keep up to date with the ever changing situation and what it might mean for you. Where you will find up to date accurante information on the current situation:
Thank you.
Kind Regards
Karen Doyle
